Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) is a counseling method designed to help the "concerned significant others (CSO's)" of people with substance use disorders, even those who are refusing treatment. CRAFT works with the family, creating lasting systemic change without ultimatums or detachment. CRAFT is an effective alternative to traditional "interventions", with two decades of peer-reviewed research behind it. CRAFT can be integrated into your existing therapy practice or family treatment program.
These training are for social workers, therapists, substance use disorder professionals, peer support workers, SUD treatment program managers, and other helping professionals who want to assist families through substance use related crisis. You do not need to be a family therapist or a SUD expert to learn CRAFT.
Lara Okoloko, LICSW is a clinical social worker in Seattle, Washington. Her psychotherapy practice specializes in working with families impacted by a loved one's substance use problem. Lara maintains a private practice and is an experienced instructor, teaching at the UW in their top-rated MSW program, teaching in-person and online classes. She is a certified CRAFT therapist and approved trainer, having been taught directly by Dr. Robert Meyers.
Lara teaches a full CRAFT training, totaling 14 hours of continuing education for professionals. These training workshops are kept small so that you can benefit from an interactive and engaging learning environment. Attendees will learn all of the CRAFT procedures to use in counseling families impacted by substance use. The CRAFT approach will be taught through a combination of informative lecture, illustrative demonstrations and useful practice exercises - you won't be bored!
This training qualifies as the first step for those clinicians who plan to continue on towards certification in CRAFT. Even if you don't intend to continue towards certification, you will be able to start using what you learn right away.
Each full 14 hour CRAFT training series offers a series of virtual class meetings, with additional time to access and complete work in the virtual classroom, to give you both flexibility to complete work on your own time and the benefit of interaction with your instructor and practice with classmates.

“Lara is one of THE best teacher/trainers I've ever sat under, for any subject. Lara's mastery of the material and her extensive practical use of the CRAFT process, makes for a fantastic training experience. She was able to overcome the challenges of ‘virtual’ presentation to make the trainings productive, interesting, connective and interactive and easy to follow.”

“Lara is a wealth of knowledge with hands-on experience. Her ability to communicate the CRAFT skills, not only to those with years in the addiction/recovery world, but those who are new to recovery coaching and the many tools available to them, makes taking this course one should definitely add to their toolbox!”

“Lara is a skilled facilitator and taught the CRAFT program clearly and concisely while still giving space for curiosity and dialogue amongst the group. She handled questions in a manner that challenged me to look at the issues more deeply and broaden my lens… while also challenging (in a good way) some old beliefs of mine on addiction that were limiting.”
